Synopsis

In the late 1800's, a pastor named Marlott tells a farm equipment dealer named John Durbeyfield that his name derives from D'Urberville. John decides to send his daughter Tess to the Trantrige manor to claim a job on the basis of their relation to the D'Urbervilles. Alec D'Urberville seduces her, but the child he gives her will not survive.
