Synopsis

SS officer Kurt Gerstein is appalled to discover that the Zyclon B poison gas he has helped develop is being used to exterminate Jewish prisoners at Auschwitz. Driven by his conscience, he visits the Papal Nuncio in Berlin, who simply dismisses his claims. A young Jesuit priest however, Riccardo Fontana, encourages Gerstein to visit the Vatican City. Surely the pontiff himself will speak out about the atrocities Gerstein has witnessed and documented?
