Synopsis

At the time of Garibaldi's landing in Sicily, Prince Fabrizio of Salina and his family move into the country home. Father Pirrone and the prince's nephew Tancredi come along, and Tancredi courts his cousin as a way of passing the time. But he soon falls for Angela, daughter of Don Calogero Sedara, the nouveau riche mayor who, it is whispered, has more money than the prince. Prince Salina consents to the wedding as a sign of " changing times. "
