Synopsis

Commander Bréval's fondest wish is to build a dam on the Niger and give the Sudan new fertility. A former minister, whose daughter is Bréval's love, helps him with his project. But Bréval contracts leprosy and breaks off the engagement. He is killed by native fanatics who want to destroy his work.
